April Fools!

Guess what? April Fools Day is also different in Spain! Because why not.  I''m pretty sure its held in February.  Anyway, I apologize for the delay in blog posts.  I've been busy gallivanting around Spain with my best friend.

1. CHICKEN POX
Yep they exist in Spain too.  And unfortunately, it's currently going around.  This isn't a big deal to most adults.  But for someone who managed to escape this awful illness, I'm terrified.  With my luck, I would get the chicken pox while I'm in Spain.

2. PLANTS
In first grade last week, we were learning about plants.  And what better way to teach plants than to actually grow plants!  Each student was told to go home and bring in some sort of seed.  (Spain eats lots of seeds-- garbanzos, lentils, etc.)  The children were easily able to find seeds in their kitchens and the next day we planted them.  In the United States, I've only ever seen the generic bean seed or flower seed.  But it was cool here because it was a random mix of plants.  And if you're looking to add some lentils in your life, they start growing in two days!  Who knew.

3. MONTH OF TAPAS
The month of March was filled with lots of Tapas.  Priego put aside each weekend in March to celebrate this glorious concept.  Every weekend, each restaurant cooked up some specialty tapas.  It was delicious.  And you even got a mini booklet to have stamped when you tried the tapa at the restaurant.

4. SEVILLA, CORDOBA, PRIEGO
With my best friend visiting Spain, we've spent a lot of time hopping from city to city.  We've also had a lot of mishaps.  Like any situation where the two of us are together, things just manage to fall apart.  For example, her arrival to Spain started with her debit card not working.  And she needed money to take a taxi to the B&B.  And I wasn't arriving until later that day.  So with no functioning phone, no money, and lacking the ability to speak Spanish, my friend somehow managed to stumble upon two Americans who gave her money for a cab.  It was a miracle.  Luckily, our accommodations were awesome along with our host.  But unfortunately the weather was rainy and cold.  (WHY MOTHER NATURE WHY?? It's been sunny and 75 every other week in March.)    This put a damper on our travels, but we still did the touristy things in Sevilla such as Las Setas, La Catedral, Plaza de Espana.  We also had some amazing food.  Next we moved onto Cordoba where the weather continued to suck.  Oh and we missed our train by one second.  Literally one second.  I was staring the driver in the face.... we passed through all of the security, we were standing in front of the door to the train asking the guy if it was the correct one, and while he was trying to make up his mind on what answer to give us, the train pulled away.  We were not happy campers.  So back through security we went to re enter the station to re buy our ticket.  I think they pitied us because we got 20% off our new ticket.  But we eventually made it and got to do all of the touristy things like the Mezquita.  Sunday, we headed back to Priego where the weather was finally a tad sunny.  Thursday evening, we head to Granada.  I'm sure there will be more adventures to write about.
