Guppy Wuppy

                                                        The Walkway to my homestay

I've been at my homestay for about 24 hours now and have walked around the house at least 10 times without anything on my feet.  I promise I am not doing this deliberately.  It's just a habit I have.  I never wear shoes inside.  For those of you who don't know, the Spanish hate when you do that.  I don't know why, but you are supposed to wear shoes on your feet at all times.  Americans and foreigners can get away with socks sometimes but technically your feet should not be touching the floor.

1. This makes me think of my Nana because she always chastised myself and my brother  for walking around the house in bare feet.  Maybe the Irish believe in this rule too??

2.  I'm pretty sure my Senora is not too pleased with my forgetfulness.  I came back from a walk around the neighborhood today to find a pair of socks placed at the end of my bed.  No bueno.

So since my arrival here, the German magically was able to speak some Spanish AND English today.  What!?? When he spoke at lunch, I almost spit my food out at him.  Speaking of food, I'm pretty sure Senora served us "guppy" for lunch.  I'm not lying when I say I ate itty bitty fish that looked like guppy and was pronounced in Spanish as "Goopy".  So imagine little guppy pieces being spit into the German's face when he spoke Spanish.  Definitely no guay.  I'm really not sure why the German only spoke German yesterday.  Maybe he wanted to see me flounder?? (Going with the fish theme today).  Yo no se.  But since his revelation, I've learned that he is 19 years old and taking a year off from University to come to Spain for a semester.  He just arrived this past Monday.  He also enjoys playing with his two rubix cubes.

About Guppy: You can fry it which is how ours was cooked.  You have to eat it like you're eating a chicken wing because there are tiny bones inside.  Senora failed to teach me her guppy eating ways, so I ingested an entire guppy spine the first round.  It really wasn't terrible tasting.  You are required to eat at least 12 of them in order to begin to feel full.  I don't think I would ever order it at a restaurant, but I would eat it if someone served it to me again. Maybe it's the Spanish version of chicken wings?!

Aside from eating guppy, my day was kind of blah.  Because Senora is rather old, all she does is watch TV.  So today we spent about 3 hours watching Spain's version of MTV Cribs.  By the end of our 6th episode, I was going a tad crazy, so I left to go for a walk with mi amigo who lives somewhat nearby.  I just returned now and plan on going out for tapas later with the girls.  There you have it folks!

Chow for now!
